Orthodontics in Trieste
- “I’d like straight teeth”
- “I don’t want fixed braces”
- “My child’s teeth are crooked”
Traditional and discreet orthodontics for adults and teenagers: clear aligners, fixed braces bonded to the inside of the teeth, traditional braces. Treatment is followed by Dott. Alessandro Rossi, specialist in orthodontics (University of Trieste, 2017).

What it is
Orthodontics deals with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of misaligned teeth and bite problems. Well-aligned teeth are not only a matter of looks: they improve chewing, make hygiene easier and prevent future problems.
Aesthetic orthodontics includes discreet treatments: thin clear aligners, or braces bonded to the inside of the teeth, move the teeth gradually.
How we work
- Monitored: we see you regularly, to make sure everything goes as planned.
- Predictable: the virtual 3D plan is the basis on which the aligners are made.
- Discreet: clear aligners and lingual braces are barely noticeable.
Who it is for, and who it is not for
Who it is for
- Children and teenagers with crooked or crowded teeth or a bite that does not close properly.
- Adults of any age, as long as the supporting tissues are healthy.
- Anyone who wants to straighten their teeth with barely noticeable braces.
When it is not done, or should wait
With inflamed gums or untreated periodontitis, the gums are treated first.
Not every case can be treated with aligners: the right appliance is decided at the visit.

The Kravos & Guadagno practice
Clear aligners and lingual braces
Clear aligners are removable, suitable for adults and children from age 8: a series of custom-made aligners gradually corrects the position of the teeth, and they come out for meals, so hygiene stays easy. Lingual braces are bonded to the inside of the teeth: they cannot be seen from outside.

Before the session and in the days after
Before the session
- Teeth and gums must be healthy before starting: decay and inflammation are treated first.
- You have a professional cleaning, repeated during treatment.
In the days after
- After fitting or changing aligners you may feel slight discomfort, which goes away within a few days.
- Brush your teeth, and the aligners, after every meal.
- With fixed braces avoid hard, crunchy or sticky food and chewing gum, which can break them; cut food into small pieces.
Risks, explained honestly
In the first days after fitting or adjustment your teeth can be sore: soft food and, if needed, a painkiller help; any irritation of the cheeks is temporary.
Braces do not cause decay, but they make hygiene harder: poor cleaning can lead to dental problems.
Without careful hygiene and cooperation from the person wearing the braces, the result may not be reached and teeth and gums can be damaged.
The roots of the teeth that are moved usually get slightly shorter, without consequences; rarely the change is significant, which is why they are checked. Without careful hygiene, permanent white or brown marks can remain on the teeth.
Without a retainer, teeth tend to move back, and some small relapse is possible even after treatment ends.
No treatment can give certainty of success: how far it goes also depends on growth and cooperation.
The alternatives
- For small imperfections of the front teeth, sometimes veneers or aesthetic bonding: we discuss it at the visit.
- Leaving the teeth as they are: possible, with harder hygiene where teeth overlap.
When to call
Call the practice if, during treatment:
- a wire or bracket comes loose and pokes;
- an aligner breaks or no longer fits;
- discomfort lasts more than a few days or gets worse;
- your gums become very red, swollen or painful.
If you find it hard to breathe, swallow or speak, if the swelling spreads up towards the eye or down towards the neck, if you cannot open your mouth, or after a blow to the head, call 112 straight away or go to the emergency department. During opening hours call the practice. Out of hours, for severe pain or swelling, the two partners' mobiles; if they do not answer, the out-of-hours doctor on 116117, and the emergency department if bleeding does not stop after 20 minutes of pressure with gauze or if the swelling comes with a high fever. A piece that comes off or a wire that pokes, if there is no severe pain and no swelling, can usually wait until the practice reopens.
Questions
What you ask us
Can I do sport with braces?
Yes. For contact sports and those where you can be hit in the face (for example karate, boxing, football, basketball, hockey), a specific mouthguard is recommended to protect your smile; it is comfortable and compatible with any appliance.
Will my teeth stay aligned once treatment is over?
A well-done treatment includes a retention phase. Teeth tend to move even after treatment, so it is essential to wear a retainer, usually only at night.
Can adults have orthodontic treatment?
Yes, orthodontics is suitable at any age, as long as the supporting tissues are healthy. Today there are discreet options for adults that do not affect daily life.
